45.483 Houses were sold for Foreigners in Turkey in 2019
The highest number in the past ten years in the sales of real estate for foreigners occurred in 2019, where 45.483 foreigners owned houses in Turkey.
In 2018, 39.663 houses were sold for foreigners in Turkey. So the increase in housing sales to foreigners increased by 14.7 percent in 2019 compared to the previous year.
Sales for Foreigners in Cities of Turkey
In the housing sales to foreigners, Istanbul ranked first with 20 thousand 857 houses in 2019, and Antalya with the second place with 8 thousand 951 houses. Antalya was followed by Ankara with 2 thousand 539 houses and Bursa with 2 thousand 213 houses.
In December 2019, 5,298 houses were sold to foreigners. Housing sales to foreigners increased by 16.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and became 5,298. In the housing sales to foreigners, Istanbul took the first place in December 2019 with the sale of 2 thousand 650 houses. Istanbul was followed by Antalya with 957 sales, Ankara with 317 sales, Bursa with 212 sales and Yalova with 154 sales, respectively.
Ranking of Foreign Buyers’ Nationalities
According to the Ministry of Environment and Construction, the registrar of the contract data, it showed that the top 5 countries that owned real estate in Turkey are in order: Iraq, Britain, Germany, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
Iraqi citizens bought 7 thousand 596 housing from Turkey in 2019. Iraq was followed by Iran with 5 thousand 423 houses, the Russian Federation with 2 893 houses, Saudi Arabia with 2 208 houses and Afghanistan with 2 thousand 191 houses.
In December, Iraqi citizens bought 897 housing from Turkey. Iraq was followed by Iran with 763 houses, the Russian Federation with 362 houses and Afghanistan with 312 houses, respectively.
The percentage of foreigners buying real estate in Turkey increased during the previous ten years. As in the year 2010, foreigners owned 10 thousand and 806 properties, while in the last year of the previous ten years the number of properties reached 45 thousand and 483 properties, which is the highest in this period. Comparing with the previous year in 2018, 14.270 apartments were sold for foreigners in Istanbul and 39.663 in Turkey.
Most of the lands was Germans’ share:
Considering the nationality of foreigners who owned in Turkey, the Iraqis were in the lead in terms of home ownership. Then Iran and then England. As for the nationalities that owned most of the lands, they came from Germany, England and Iraq.
The favorite areas for foreigners are Esenyurt and Didim
Foreigners have shown great interest in Esenyurt and Didim in the past year in Istanbul and Alanya. As foreigners bought 7 thousand 266 properties in Esenyurt and 6 thousand 152 properties in Didim.
Many European Union member countries, mostly from England, Germany, Greece, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Belgium, Finland and France, have immovable property in Turkey.
