The M4 metro line has been for years the main and only metro line that connects Kadikoy, Maltepe, Kartal, and Pendik districts, till extending the Marmaray train line in 2019. The Marmaray line started to cover more than 40 stations between Halkali on the European side and Gebze in the east of the Asian side of Istanbul which added a new transportation method to the districts it's passing through.

Starting from the seaside and the coastal road, we can find a majority of mid-rise buildings that are of a few decades in age, where most of the first row buildings would have a beautiful sea view, while the inner rows can only enjoy being close to the coast without the view. "Dragos" neighborhood is part of the coastal area where villas are more common than apartments, however, some new high buildings complexes started to appear there and in limited other coastal locations.
Going forward from the sea towards the inner neighborhoods of Kartal we will find that the mid-rise building style is still the most common. The area south to the D100 highway is where most of the new developments are taking place. The area which was industrial before is transforming to be modern activity and business area.
The north side of the D100 highway is also being transformed little by little having more modern developments, towers, and residential complexes.
Continuing towards the north and before reaching the Aydos forest, we can find some modern neighborhoods with mid or high-rise buildings that have been developed one or two decades ago.
Kartal is a nice place for living and is one of the favorites for Turkish people. If you are looking for residential property, you can consider the coastal area as a better option with a higher budget, or you may consider the modern new complexes north to the D100 highway as a more affordable option.
